Friends Come & Go
If you were to ask me who my best friend is, the answer would probably change every few years. This isn’t because I’m a “friend hopper”, it’s simply because we all change as we grow. Sometimes we change in the same direction and sometimes we don’t. And I’ve started to realize that it’s okay. My mom told me a few months ago that sometimes it’s better to move on and look back on the happy memories than not moving on and only remembering the unpleasant memories. I believe this can apply to friendships as well.
Throughout grade school, my friend groups changed a lot, incorporating new and old friends. The people I once thought were going to be my forever friend group, are suddenly not my friend group. The people who I never talked to in high school ended up being some of my best friends. The kids I worked with ended up being some of the funniest people I know. The friendships I made at college will be ones I never forget. That guy who intimidated me turns out to be one of the most caring people in my life right now. All these situations I’ve listed could, and probably will, change over the next few years. While it’s sad to think about the possibility of it ending, I think we should focus on the positive things that friendship gave us.
